Kent River timber bridge built in 1953 finally upgraded

People travelling between Mt Barker and Manjimup recently would have noticed construction work on a bridge on the Muir Highway.

Main Roads has been refurbishing the Kent River Bridge in Perillup east of Rocky Gully and about 49km west of Mt Barker.

$2.4 million project includes widening of the bridge and reinforcement

A Main Roads spokeswoman said The Kent River Bridge was a seven span timber bridge constructed in 1953.

“The $2.4 million project includes substructure repairs, widening of the bridge to 10 metres and construction of a new, reinforced concrete deck,” she said.

“The works are being carried out by Fulton Hogan Industries, managed by Main Roads.

“Work commenced in April 2021 and is expected to be completed in mid-October 2021.”

Vehicles are able to continue using the road via a temporary bitumen track around the works.
