Albany’s very own Ninja Warrior who represented the region on the TV hit series Australian Ninja Warrior, has made a home amongst the bouldering climbing walls at a local indoor climbing facility.

Born and raised in Albany, Zed Colback moved to Mandurah where he managed a climbing gym with wife Nicole for 10 years but moved back down to Albany this year.

Finding a home at Albany Indoor Adventures, Mr Colback is now a climbing coach, is lead route setter for Boulder Island and trains within the facility.

Mr Colback said bouldering is a passion which turned into a fulltime job.

“I fell in love with outdoor climbing so that really motivated me train and keep doing that,” he said.

“I’m passionate and excited about the coaching side of it, getting people into it. “

“Bouldering and climbing gyms are such an awesome way to find friends, find a community and still do fitness as well.”

Great to see new people

Mr Colback said it was great to see people and kids find a sport they enjoy, even when they don’t find team sports enjoyable.

“Climbing is individual but you still do it with other people and I just seen that help a lot of young people and older people as well.”

Mr Colback and his wife are not in Albany for a permanent stay, instead they are looking at travelling to continue their passion in outdoor climbing and achieving outdoor goals.

Albany Indoor Adventures owner James McLean said they felt lucky to have Mr Colback for the time he was in Albany.

“We feel lucky to have caught him in a little window of time before he takes off,” he said.

“We basically have extended and taken our climbing walls to the next level, so Zed was instrumental in designing and building the big extensions.”

Albany Indoor Adventures Boulder Island is a highlight of the gym and Mr Colback will be teaching kids bouldering classes during the next school term.
