The pillars of endurance, flotation capability and weather-resistance will be put to the test at this year’s Build a Boat competition and race.

Teams will gather at the Albany Boatshed this Saturday in a thrilling boat building competition before they race their creations in the marina.

Event organiser Jenny Rickerby said teams will have 4.5 hours to build their boat which must be able to be paddled or have oars.

“It can be absolutely hilarious,” she said.

“All different shapes and sizes of boats are built, it can be anything.”

Prizes will be handed out at the end and the general public can also vote on their favourite.

Ms Rickerby said this was guaranteed to be the best unpredictable live entertainment during the Albany Maritime Festival.

The public is invited to wander through the boatshed to see the builders at work starting at 9am and then at 2pm vote for their favourite boat and watch the skill and ingenuity of the builder’s creations put to the test on the water.
